Energy Efficiency Legislation Delayed Indefinitely

01 Oct 2013 10:14 AM | USGBC-CCGBC (Administrator)
The energy efficiency legislation, commonly known as the Shaheen-Portman legislation, has been delayed indefinitely after two weeks of partisan bickering and deliberation. This bipartisan legislation, led by Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) and Rob Portman (R-Ohio), received strong bipartisan support but leaders struggled with some of the proposed amendments, such as a decision on the Keystone XL pipeline and others targeting U.S. EPA rules on climate change. With other important upcoming legislation looming in the Senate, it raises the question of whether the Senate leaders will reconsider the measure in the upcoming months. As a strong, vocal supporter, the USGBC recognizes and appreciates it's dedicated community and chapters for helping to educate local leaders on the benefits of the Shaheen-Portman legislation.

' With everyone's continued efforts, there is still a chance of advancing energy efficient solutions in this Congress.'(Bryan Howard- Leg. Director)
